U.Va. Alumni Association
Some of the technologies behind this project:
- Semantic, valid XHTML
- CSS
- sIFR
- Macromedia Contribute
Like many so academic departments, the U.Va. Alumni Association is fiercely independent, but interfacing with other departments is a requirement for day to day business.
Keeping in this spirit, I wanted to preserve the colorful, dense, graphical format that the University used, but without resorting to complex HTML and hundreds of difficult-to-edit image files files that plagued so many other other sites in the community.
The end result was a nice base of semantic XHTML with well-structured CSS providing the look & feel. sIFR keeps headers rendered in attractive, on-brand fonts without sacrificing editability. The light-weight XHTML plays nicely with Macromedia Contribute, allowing staff with little web knowledge to update selected portions site using a super simple interface.
This project was all about stretching simple technology for big results.
